About IVRI
The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (ICAR-IVRI) is a premier institution dedicated to animal health and research. Established in 1889, it has played a pivotal role in controlling and eradicating major animal diseases like rinderpest and enhancing livestock productivity. Over the years, ICAR-IVRI has expanded its research areas to include genetic improvement, nutrition, and value addition of livestock products. It also has a network of regional stations across the country in Mukteswar, Palampur, Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore. The institute has made significant contributions to the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutic agents for various animal diseases. IVRI has a strong focus on education and training, offering postgraduate and doctoral programs in various veterinary and allied disciplines. It was granted the Deemed University status by UGC in 1983. It also provides diagnostic services, conducts research on wildlife health, and promotes technology transfer to industry. The institute committed to excellence and innovation, which has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award. ICAR-IVRI continues to play a vital role in advancing animal health and welfare in India.
